It’s rare that a appliance inspires a kitchen’s layout. However, if that appliance is an iconic Lacanche range, it is difficult not to make it the middle of attention. Designer Karla Barton of McBurney Junction built a part of drywall around the range, highlighting it using background and a travertine tile backsplash. 2 islands, announcement light and a symmetrical design round out the remainder of this warm, French state–style space.

The customer had bought the beautiful black Lacanche stove prior to beginning the design process and desired her fresh kitchen to revolve round it. A custom drywall surround covered in Farrow & Ball wallpaper instantly draws the eye.

The background ties the range into the rest of the plan. Barton had leftover travertine tile in the kitchen flooring cut into tile for the backsplash.

Only a single island or table would’ve taken away in the symmetrical design the customer desired. So Barton place in two islands — one for cleaning and prep, one for ingestion.

Statement lighting was just another item on the customer’s wish list. These Restoration Hardware chandeliers worked well with the kitchen’s mix of French state and industrial styles.
